LeerlingenAt the International School Hilversum, we offer students from the region (with a pre-university education recommendation) a unique opportunity to pursue an international education within our bilingual pre-university education program. The first four years consist of the Middle Years Program (MYP), followed by a two-year Diploma Program (DP). The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is equivalent to the pre-university education diploma. After earning the IB Diploma, students have access to hundreds of universities worldwide, including all Dutch universities.
Students in the bilingual pre-university education (VWO) program are taught core subjects such as English, Dutch, mathematics, science, and social studies, as well as subjects like Latin. The language of instruction at school, and in almost all lessons, is English. Even though it may not be your native language, you’ll quickly adapt and become proficient. Our curriculum focuses heavily on developing skills that prepare students for their future and an increasingly rapidly changing world. Collaboration, communication and information transfer, critical thinking, research, and creative thinking are just a few examples. ICT and technology also play a significant role in this. At ISH, you’ll not only have access to a laptop but also to a wide range of technology available at the school. For example, you can use 3D printers, laser cutters, green screens, and various software programs to develop projects. During the weekly STEAM hour, students have the opportunity to develop their creativity in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Music.
We are a school that embraces “learning through diversity.” Through projects and various school activities, students in the bilingual stream regularly collaborate with students in the international stream. Tolerance and respect for one another are important core values at school. We offer a safe and inclusive learning environment that provides opportunities for all our students to develop themselves to the fullest, both academically and socially.
Service as Action is a key component of the MYP (Middle Years Programme). Students are actively involved both inside and outside of school to contribute to the well-being of society or their local (school) community. This annual component of the school program offers students the opportunity to see firsthand what they have learned in school or to put it into practice. It also encourages students to think critically about everyday social (world) issues.
To support the curriculum, many activities are organized each year, both at school and elsewhere. These include guest speakers, museum visits, fieldwork in the surrounding area, and (language) excursions abroad.
